The Information Revolution

Money is a proxy for the game of storing and transforming energy, and Bitcoin is the immovable, absolutely scarce tool for playing it. Those who see this and act now end up holding the reserves once the shift moves too fast to catch.

The one-minute version

What it argues against

A financial-advice industry and banking system, Silicon Valley Bank included, that buries savers in data instead of showing them the game they're in.

Every passage, on the record.

  1. 00:00Claim

Imagine following every fiat money guru to help you save your way to retirement. You do all the things they say, to the best of your ability, and then you get rugged because they had no idea what they were actually saving and you didn't either. All that work, all that energy you put into saving, completely flushed down the toilet, and you don't benefit from it at all, because you didn't know the rules, you didn't know there was a game, you didn't know you'd opted into something. And that's a hundred percent on purpose.

  2. 01:07Claim

Let's take it to the extreme: you're the furthest removed from the actual energy process to begin with. You're supposedly transforming this energy, let's say, I don't know, let's say you're not even transforming energy in a positive sense in the first place. You're one of the millions who don't transform energy at all but waste it, working for a government or a zombie corporation made possible by the existence of the government, many steps removed from an actual customer. You never settle a transaction between the energy transformer and the buyer of that energy. You have no idea what's actually going on in your day to day existence, or what life actually is the process of. You believe you trade your time for money, and you're going to be responsible with it.

  3. 02:01Claim

You decide to spend less than you produce, even though you're net negative on the extended order. Every living organism has some amount of pushback inside its own system, and you're the net negative on the extended order because you're consuming energy and not producing it, you're extracting from the system more than you're contributing to it. But because there are others out-producing you, the facade of this extended order continues without any help from you, and there are many like you.

  4. 02:37Claim · condensed

Say you do manage to put away more than you consume, you build a reservoir of excess energy you feel safe storing with a custodian. You need somewhere to store that energy because you don't know how to store it yourself, that's never been possible before without an enormous amount of infrastructure someone had to pay for. Given the alternatives, storing it with a custodian was the safest, most sensible option, and for a long time it was, because that's the system that out-competed every other system, and what it out-competed them at was transforming energy and storing it, making it available to people and entities in the future.

  5. 03:28Claim · condensed

You give a custodian your energy, saying I want to access it in the future, and they give you peace of mind because you don't understand the game you just volunteered into. One day you wake up and you can't access your energy savings, because they're gone, somebody else has them. You're shocked, you predictably follow the stages of grief, and you're left dissatisfied because from your perspective there's no real explanation, you just know somebody won and you lost. And now, with no reserves, you can't even spend the energy needed to answer the pile of questions you'd need answered to understand what happened.

  6. 04:14Claim

You blame the first thing you can see, you blame the banks, it was the banks that rugged you, at least that's how it looks. In actuality the people you think are helping you deal with it are the ones that rugged you. Then they fix it by telling you they'll make you whole, because they can magically make that energy reappear. Never mind the whole violating the physical laws of the universe thing, they're just going to make it right, and it probably sounds too good to be true.

  7. 04:53Claim

Why did you save in the first place? You wanted to be safe, safe from change, from the possibility that the future will be different from the past and the present. You want the optionality to deal with any state changes to the best of your ability, so you opt into a system that's incredibly volatile but masked to look secure when it's anything but. You trust people you've never met with the most important element in your life, and the track record shows you should never do that, but you do it anyway because there aren't any alternatives, at least not to you.

  8. 04:53Claim

What's the answer to your local bank failing, because the system mandated them to hold long-duration bonds yielding 25 basis points, and then the Fed overlords raise rates to over 5 percent, which completely wipes out that energy? What's the answer?

  9. 07:30Claim

It is SVB. Its health is the system's health, because you can't operate in the system unless you do what they did. The rules force your hand, which means every other energy steward made the same mistakes. It's going to get much worse, the tip of the iceberg is just reaching the surface, and we've already seen how quickly things can change.

  10. 09:42Claim

The road to this conclusion is difficult and confusing no matter what your mental capacity is, because this system is different from the extended order you've been previously exposed to. If you know what money is, the problem it solves for, technology curves, energy transformation, complex systems, game theory, computer science, Boolean logic, then you can piece together why each component is necessary. But that's not going to happen overnight.

  11. 10:53Claim

It's the same conclusion as if you simplified it all down to one idea: it's probably good if there aren't people in this world who can steal from you without your being able to stop them. If you think that, then Bitcoin is good. If Bitcoin is good, people will use it. If people use it, Bitcoin wins. If Bitcoin wins, for the first time ever the extended order is exposed to absolute scarcity and the realities that stem from that. If that's the case, it's best to get some exposure before others do.

  12. 10:53Claim

Let's not make any mistake in what we're all doing every day when it comes to money. It is the language of value, it's how we communicate with those around us and not around us, in the physical and the informational realm. We're picking a side, or more realistically, most are defaulting to the side that will do the picking for them, because they aren't aware there are options to begin with.

  13. 12:24Claim · condensed

The advantage the legacy system leverages is that if members of the extended order do nothing, they get channeled into their energy pools by the gravity of the fiat universe, which means the system doesn't have to educate users, it just has to shield people from information and knowledge. That's why flooding people with more data is such a powerful tactic for controlling the masses: the more data, the more difficult to filter signal from noise. The fiat system doesn't want or need users knowing the system exists in the first place, so it overloads them with useless data until they don't have the bandwidth to keep up with what actually matters.

  14. 14:01Claim

Money and the monetary system are simply tools for transforming more energy. They don't transform the energy themselves, life must harness the anti-entropic power to increase the efficiency of the process, so the team you're on must do the work: are there more competent workers on your team than the alternative?

  15. 14:37Claim

What I mean when I say fit is that people are well placed to do the transformation necessary for continued accumulation of more energy reserves than they consume. Can the majority build better, build faster, build more robust, with less wastage?

  16. 15:19Claim

How could something so obvious appear so vague to the masses? That's a scary proposition, but at the same time it doesn't matter.

  17. 15:49Claim · condensed

Are they crazy, or is the great unwashed mass crazy? Which is it, the people taking advantage of the system, or the people being punished by it? Can we really say there are bad actors if the system itself creates the incentives to act the way these people do?

  18. 16:35Claim · condensed

If you're forced into a world where you have to play a game to survive, doesn't it make sense to maximize your turn based on the rules, until you can choose not to play the game at all? Would legacy players welcome it if you could just take your ball and go home? Chances are low, given that most members of the extended order are averse to change in the first place.

  19. 17:19Claim

It's amazing what people will endure just so they don't have to face the possibility of change. They'll let themselves be placed under severe hardship just to keep from lifting their heads out of the fog of their old reality, because it's easier, because it requires less energy. That's how backwards the current model has forced life.

  20. 17:19Claim

Bitcoin is the first and only iteration of absolute scarcity ever known, so it's the most powerful tool ever, and it's also immune to demand increase. This is mind-bogglingly powerful.

  21. 19:30Claim

What's the downside of Bitcoin winning? More freedom, less centralization, more value exchange. And if it loses: how could it lose, if you can't kill it? But imagine it did end, imagine this new reality had never existed. Where is the world turning, have freedoms increased, where are people more fit for the energy transformation process?

  22. 20:16Claim

Inside the current regime, the powers that be can cut you off from your life, they can and have suppressed your ability to communicate and express yourself. To what end is this what you want? If not, what are you going to do, what are you prepared to do?

  23. 20:50Claim

We have to hold ourselves to a high standard. No one is coming to save you. There's no guarantee that energy reserves continue to accumulate, you have to do it, you must make it so.

  24. 20:50Claim

You have to push back the tide of entropy that is constantly threatening to consume the order. The informational realm exists, and life is just as adaptive in the informational realm as it is in the physical one. As you begin to understand that money represents energy, this idea forces adaptation of the informational representation of your life force itself, the informational you is becoming more fit, more capable of attracting energy.

  25. 22:20Claim · condensed

There's a revolution taking place in this realm: millions around the physical world are leveling up their informational avatars, their energy transformers, in this space, as life shifts further into the ones and zeros. The informational realm didn't have a bridge to the physical world before Bitcoin, so it didn't have as large an impact on physical energy reserves. All that has changed.

  26. 23:50Claim

If you understand this process, the path forward is pretty simple: you make yourself more valuable in the informational realm, you make it easier to transform energy at scale and store it. Anything that opposes that ability is a hindrance to survival, to flourishing, it's a distraction. You grow your surface area in the informational world so more energy finds its way to you.

  27. 25:17Claim

Bitcoin wins because it forces individual members of the extended order to up their energy transformation game, because this tool exists, and you can take advantage of it if you choose to. If you're more efficient than everyone around you, the chances that the extended order adapts to this new way of working increase.

  28. 06:52Prediction

It's going to get worse. Pain will increase, and pain is good because it is information, the higher the signal the less it can be ignored. A large portion of the population needs to be forced to change, they're not going to do it on their own, and the energy to make that change is coming. There is no other release valve for the pressure the fiat system is now experiencing, it's built up to a level that can no longer be contained.

  29. 15:19Prediction

I'm here to tell you Bitcoin will win. Everyone else is wrong. People who don't understand Bitcoin, the problem, or energy are going to be extremely disadvantaged in the very near future. How much further into the future, I can't say, but it's already begun and it won't slow down anytime soon.

  30. 17:19Prediction

Bitcoin is going to moon, and the moon is much further away than you think.

  31. 18:49Prediction

We've done the math before on this podcast for what a single Bitcoin translates to in terms of energy in the very near future. In two halvings from now, imagine the energy, imagine being able to wield that energy as you see fit, across the world and across time. What would you create, what would you build, knowing what you know?

  32. 23:50Prediction

It'll be obvious once Bitcoin is the only tool left standing, but by then the opportunity to make once-in-a-life-form-changing advances in energy reserves will be gone. Right now is the only time there's a window where, simply armed with information, you can accumulate massive physical energy reserves.

  33. 14:01Idea

Money and the monetary system are simply tools for transforming more energy. They don't transform the energy themselves, life must harness the anti-entropic power to increase the efficiency of the process.

  34. 20:50Idea

The informational you becomes more capable of attracting energy. Think of it like this: every time you're exposed to ideas that are true and real, that allow you to improve your energy attraction capabilities in the informational realm, you're increasing your strength, you're leveling up the game.

  35. 06:13Analogy

It reminds me of that Warren Buffett quote: if you've been playing poker for half an hour and you still don't know who the patsy is at the table, you are the patsy.

  36. 09:00Analogy

The definition of life is swimming against the current, flowing against the downstream reality made possible by gravity. Your first interaction with something like that is that you don't believe it to be true, so you fight against it, until you realize it's simply not possible to beat, and then you have to adapt.

  37. 15:49Analogy · condensed

Like the meme of the single person shouting out to a crowd of a thousand, saying, yes, you are all wrong. That's where we are right now.

  38. 17:19Analogy

Would they like it that you could just take your ball and go home? Would they welcome this change with open arms, would they immediately embrace this new reality? Chances are low.

  39. 22:20Analogy

Think of what's happening in the informational realm like a simple biological model: the extended order is like the human body, each person is a cell inside that system. The cells are evolving to gather energy better and faster and keep access to it for longer in more uncertain conditions, and the body rewards the cells that adapt fastest. Cells that refuse to adapt are competed out, there's pain in the clearing-out process, and then there's regrowth, as cells that survive build a body better suited to the new conditions.

This little banking adventure over the last few blocks has gotten the ball rolling on this idea. It is SVB: its health is the system's health, because every other energy steward has made the same mistakes it did, forced by the same rules.

  55. 25:17Open question

There's no way to know when the shift will occur. We can only see that the shift must occur, and once it does, it'll be too hard, too difficult to catch up to, because the speed at which it moves will be too fast.
